Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have experience in drawing blood, a strong commitment to patient care, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples for various tests and ensuring the integrity of the samples collected.

Responsibilities:

  • Blood Collection:

    • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients of all ages.
    • Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of collected samples.
    • Follow standard procedures for blood collection to minimize discomfort and risk to patients.
    • Utilize proper techniques to handle and dispose of needles and other sharps safely.
  • Patient Interaction:

    • Explain blood collection procedures to patients and address any questions or concerns they may have.
    • Provide a high level of patient care and comfort throughout the blood draw process.
    • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and provide first aid or alert medical staff if necessary.
  • Sample Handling and Processing:

    • Ensure proper storage and transportation of blood samples to the laboratory.
    • Document blood collection and processing accurately in patient records.
    • Perform basic testing on blood samples as required, such as blood glucose levels.
    • Follow protocols for specimen handling to maintain sample integrity.
  • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate records of blood draws and sample deliveries.
    • Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and order new supplies as needed.
    • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow to ensure efficient operations.
    • Update and verify patient information in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Compliance and Safety:

    • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including OSHA regulations.
    • Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
    • Ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials and comply with waste management procedures.
  • Professional Development:

    • Stay updated with the latest phlebotomy techniques and best practices through continuing education.
    • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings to maintain high standards of care.
Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
  • Certification: Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent is preferred and may be required based on state regulations.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a phlebotomist or in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
    • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with phlebotomy equipment and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination to handle phlebotomy equipment.
